Richard Reiter's AFRO-JAZZ PROJECT in concert
Sunday, August 1st 3:00pm-5:00pm*
Richard
Reiter, an Emmy Award winning composer, is a nationally
recognized saxophonist and flutist. Since the 1980’s he has
led one of America’s most critically acclaimed contemporary
jazz groups, the RICHARD REITER AFRO-JAZZ PROJECT.
On Sunday, August 1, Van Vleck House
& Gardens presents his seven piece band in concert from 3:00
– 5:00 p.m., performing music from their CD “I Hear Africa.”
Accompanying Reiter will be musicians Mitch Schechter
(keyboard), Josh Rubin (guitar), Takashi Otsuka (bass),
Luther Rix (drums), plus Mark Turner and Billy Bungo playing
a stage full of African drums.
As a special treat after the concert,
Reiter will lead a community drum circle from 5:00-6:00pm.
Audience members are invited to bring their own drums and
percussion instruments and join in the fun.
Reiter has appeared as guest jazz soloist with the Baltimore
Symphony Orchestra, on-stage soloist in Bob Fosse’s Broadway
musical “Dancin’,” and backup for such artists as Frank
Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Nancy Wilson, Johnny Mathis,
Temptations and Supremes. He has composed over seventy
scores for films, TV shows, commercials, dance companies and
theaters.
In recognition of his talent, and with a support letter from
legendary jazz saxophonist Sonny Rollins, Reiter has been
awarded three composition/performance grants from the
National Endowment for the Arts. Reiter is listed in the
Marquis “Who’s Who in Entertainment.” Find out more about
