Join the dedicated volunteers at the Van Vleck House & Gardens

Volunteer projects include garden maintenance, educational
programming, office work and special events. We rely on the
support of people of all ages - from high school students
completing community service hours to retirees eager to stay

OFFICE ASSISTANCE:
Filing, answering phones, copying, mailing and data entry are
always tasks that could use willing hands. If you have 2-3 hours
a week to commit, we’d love to have you join our team.

SPECIAL EVENTS:
We’re always looking for willing hands that can help us with our
special events. These include our three major fundraisers - Deck the Halls
in November, the Spring Plant sale in May, and our annual Garden
Tour, Roses to Rock Gardens, in early June - and our schedule of
music and arts programming. Whether you like to work behind
the scenes, or in the frontlines, we have a spot for you.
Van Vleck Plant Sale
This fundraiser has grown into one of our biggest
and most popular events with people lining up outside the gate
in anticipation. As always, we need your help in many areas
including open call plant set up and organization, check-in for
Friday night’s party, plant write-up and check-out on Saturday.
Come join the excitement and spend the morning with the
beautiful and rare plants and trees.

Friday Night Party and Sale: Shifts will
be 2 hours, from 5:30-8:00 and 7:00-9:00.
Saturday&Sunday Plant Sale: Shifts will be approximately 3
hours, from 7:30-11:00, 10:30–1:30 and 1:00 – 4:00.

Deck the Halls. Volunteer Chair,
Gretchen Prater is eager for help
with various roles, including Open House hours, check-in, and
our special “Morning with Santa". Come be a part of one of

GARDEN MAINTENANCE:
Do you like to garden? Looking to learn more?
Work with our experienced staff on any number of garden projects
and you'll leave knowing more than when you started. It
takes a lot of hands to keep our six acres beautiful for all. If
you love working outdoors and don't might getting dirty this may
be the niche for you. Tasks vary with the season. Volunteer
hours are anytime between 9:00am to 3:00pm, Monday through
Friday.

WEED WARRIORS:
The Weed Warriors are a group of garden volunteers who meet
together on Wednesday mornings during the spring and fall. They
gather in the kitchen for a starter cup of coffee at 9:15AM and
they go off into the garden to tackle whatever Laura has on tap
for the day. The session winds up by 11:00AM. If you're
interested in making the gardens a regular Wednesday morning

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION:
Like to work with children? Michelle Wiessner, our Education
Director needs help with visiting school groups, including our
“Nature Connections” program that brings Newark school children
to visit the grounds. Help is also welcome in organizing
classroom supplies and displays. Contact Michelle at
